Commentaries on 2008 Reunion
Jul 17 2008, 5:15 PM EDT
I was comm officer late '71 - late '73 and this was my first reunion with O'Callahan shipmates. I was greatly impressed with the folks who came. I hope a lot more show up in two years in Nashville. Joe Allen and Andy Anderson (not his real name - as we discovered in his life story which includes his eyewitness account of the bombing of Pearl Harbor - more to follow - video - audio on this - amazing guy!). I liked all the history there in Boston, but the real memories I take away are the quiet moments when only a few were sipping beers and some amazing stories were told. TRUE STORIES too !!!

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to listen to Andy. His story was indeed worth remembering for the future.

Andy is something special. His age and service and era in the Navy is special. The stories from Dick about the mutiny in Korea were great too. I hope I can capture some of those stories in time also. I wish the others at the reunion could have understood how you have to just hang around and sip suds awhile and eventually amazing things happen. I blame it on the younger generations growing up with remote controls for their TV's. Sometimes you just need to sit back and listen through some stuff without the ease of pushing a button to change the channel. XBox has destroyed the current crop of youth.
